Free Thursdays Feature Films, Art Museum Admission - Ten foreign films, five comedies bring unique programming to Palm Springs

The only place to see the movie is at the Palm Springs Art Museum's Annenberg Theater, which begins its free summer film schedule June 6 that runs through Sept. 19. Every Thursday, patrons will be treated to a movie starting with foreign films for the first 10 weeks followed by five classic comedies for the last five weeks.

As an actress, she appeared in Ang Lee’s 1999 period drama, Ride with the Devil, and more recently as June Carter Cash in the Lifetime biopic Ring of Fire.

From what began with a quartet, the Desert Winds Freedom Band has grown to more than 65 members serving the greater Palm Springs area since forming in 2001 by Gary Moline. Their ninth performance of the season will be held at 4 p.m. June 8 in the Community Room of the Rancho Mirage Public Library. Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

June 1 is Marilyn Monroe’s birthday. The late starlet would have been 86. PS Resorts, representing a consortium of Palm Springs hotels, is taking advantage of her continued presence through the summer to make sure her birthday is celebrated in style. The free party starts at 6 p.m.

Parenting your newborn just got a little easier. “Baby’s Night Out” offers new moms and dads a chance to get out of the house, bring their baby in tow and still enjoy a first-run movie at the theater. No longer is crying, feeding and diaper change an issue. The UltraStar Cinemas Mary Pickford in Cathedral City offers “Baby’s Night Out” every Thursday on June 6 and runs though Sept 19th. This week’s feature, Star Trek Into the Darkness” will screen at 7 p.m. June 6.
